Born in Chanteloup, Seine-et-Marne, Henri Cartier Bresson discovered the Leica camera in 1932 and began a lifelong passion for photography, having his first exhibition in New York in 1933. An early master of candid photography (“street photography” or “real life reportage”) his style has influenced generations of photographers who followed.
